Dragon Babies Part One

Dragon Eggs

In the deep desert
Surrounded carefully
By stones
Dragon eggs lie in wait
Incubating in the sun
Ruby red as a cherry
Mother dragon curls next
To the stone nest
Snapping up scorpions
That scuttle too close
She waits patiently
While night turns to day
The sand stays warm
Even as the air chills
She blasts the rocks
Surrounding the eggs
With hot fire
Dredged from her
Belly passing her lungs
Engulfing the rocks
Turning them white hot
Keeping her two baby
Dragons hot in their shells
All night long
