Dragon’s Orbit

A yellow dragon disappears

Into the golden sun

Burnishing her scales

For a sharp dive into

The blue void of atmosphere

That approaches

The horizon

And faster than

A hummingbird’s heart beat

The dragon’s wind sweep

Full arresting the dive

To a hover above churning

Waters while the dragon

Extends her yellow throat

To give a roar that extends

Into a licking flame toward

That golden sun

So fixed in the sky as

The earth orbits round

And round and dragons

Soar at the edges of our

Small orbits
